Phelps to Picket VA Tech Funerals

Y'all have heard of the "Reverend" Fred Phelps and his pseudo-church, Westboro Baptist. He's the guy (along with his church members, most of whom are members of his own family and extended family) who goes around picketing the funerals of Iraqi war veterans. His reasoning? The United States condones homosexuality, and the Iraq war and death of American soldiers is God's vengeance on us all.

Well, guess what? This hateful man is planning on picketing the funerals of students and professors killed yesterday in the tragedy at Virginia Tech. From Pam Spaulding's website (as a matter of principle, she'll quote Phelps but not link to his site so he can't count the hits to his page):
WBC will preach at the funerals of the Virginia Tech students killed on campus during a shooting rampage April 16, 2007. You describe this as monumental horror, but you know nothing of horror -- yet. Your bloody tyrant Bush says he is 'horrified' by it all. You know nothing of horror -- yet. Your true horror is coming. "They shall also gird themselves with sackloth, and horror shall cover them; and shame shall be upon all faces, and baldness upon all their heads" (Eze. 7:18).

Why did this happen, you ask? It's simple. Your military chose to shoot at the servants of God today, and all they got for their effort was terror. Then, the LORD your God sent a crazed madman to shoot at your children. Was God asleep while this took place? Was He on vacation? Of course not. He willed this to happen to punish you for assailing His servants.
Read like the ramblings of a madman? You bet they are. Most of this world's horrors happen in the name of religion, to me a horrible fact and something to pause and think long and hard about.

UPDATE: people are mobilizing to block Phelps' presence at the funerals. Read more about it here.

Yeah. There is simply no other way to respond.

I was telling a co-worker about this and wanted to show her his site (for informational purposes only). It's blocked from work because of "Hate Speech".

There's a recent article in Maclean's about religion being "poison". I'm getting a debugging error on their page (www.macleans.ca) so I can't find the link to the article.

Makes sense since the url is www.godhatesfags.com (or maybe org). They are every bit as bad as the Klan imo. What boggles the mind is that they'd choose to worship a God that is all about hate instead of love and helping your fellow human beings.

At least the Klan site warns you not to enter if you don't agree with their philosphy.

What about the people who worship a G-d that tells them their belief system is the only correct one? What happened? Did G-d wake up one morning and decide that all other religions were wrong?

That has always baffled me as well, because it seems to me there are many paths to God. Who is to say which one is the "right" one? And is there even a "right" one? If God is truly good, then it seems to me what's more important to God is how you act and live in this world. If you profess a belief in Jesus yet act kindly towards all of your fellow humans, if Jesus turns out to really be Yahweh, will Yahweh care that much? Otoh, if you believe in Yahweh but are hateful to everybody else, wouldn't Yahweh care more about that?

Of course some would say I'm spouting blasphemy. So be it.
